Vision statement

Jackie is an illustrator and a painter.  Her artwork is an ongoing exploration of the unresolved environmental concerns that we all face.  She is interested in depicting work from observing plants and animals that interest her or that she has seen in the woods and waters of Maine. We are all connected and now more than ever, disconnected.  With a focus on endangered plants and animals in Maine, she strives to create contrast images in her work.  For example, work that first reads as inviting but upon observation, has elements that indicate all is not well.  Some paintings and drawings have the subjects veiled in smoke or struggling from rising tides.  Others show animals who appear to be on high alert.  Chick-a-dees tumble in flight and barn owls loose control of their nightly ritual.  This is her way of asking the viewer to honor the magic in nature while being aware of the destructive forces of climate change.  Through the experience of, and the understanding of the environment, art can teach us to protect and defend the natural world in order to preserve it for now and for future generations.
